24th December Bookclub meeting chapters 8-20 at 6:30am UK time (By Rashdah) (Thanked: 2 times)

all discussions will take place on this page, can you please post your questions before hand as a add to myview, it might be a bit tough seeing as you have to hit the 500 character limit, but I think currently this is one way to try to bring some organisation into the bookclub.

I did consider a chapter by chapter analysis but I got a mixed review for that, personally I thought that it would allow us to more opening discuss things but then I agree with pooja who said it might become too tedious.

if we know the amount of questions there are, I think it would be best to give equal time to each question and then maybe come back to the questions that we have elft incomplete, as I don't want anyone to feel left out.

Observer, I know you expressed concern regarding this point, but I am trying to be fair to everyone and want everyones questions to be answered. If we had been face to face it would have been different as we would get things done quickly, here we have to look at time constraints for people. I have also told admin to increase the comments word limit, but I'm not sure it will be done for tommorow. I have also asked to remove display comments and to create a page for all members.

Maheen, I have taken into account your suggestion that questions should be known before hand, however, it is likely alot of people will not have read this myview when they come on so I will make it clear tommorow. I will also try and shift the time to a bit earlier, but I have to do it when members are on as ppl do not check the myviews regularly.

if anyone has any queries or questions please do ask!

oh yeah and please check your country times according to the UK time so as to avoid all confusion!

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE - THE BOOK CLUB (By Observer)

Good morning, dear Rashdah,

Trust you are fresh as a flower from a good night's rest, my sweetheart.

I also hope that you will take my words sportively and in good spirit.

I am withdrawing from active participation in the BookClub due to the following reasons :

1. I cannot restrict myself while responding, because :

a. I am a student of literature and not just a hobby reader. I am trained to analyse and have a way of going about it, I just have to tell all and listen to all and beat an issue to death till all aspects of it are debated and understood to the last letter.

b. That makes my response quite elaborate and I do not wish to be limited by time.

c. I feel that it is important to understand an issue in its entirety before moving on to the next.

2. My above attitude can be a boredom for other participants who want to be concise and succinct and may feel that I am dragging every aspect a little TOO MUCH!

3. My speed of typing is 100 words per minute, which means I will be typing in a lot in the time that others type in their one response (sorry, if someone out there has good speed too, you understand that this is not meant as a slight). Others having to read my lengthy responses and then giving their comments will be time consuming.

So, even though I will not be participating in the discussion, I will catch up with all the discussion the next day and if I feel that there is a further angle to be considered, will leave my point of view on the same page.

However, I have some requests, may I put them in and you can decide whether to oblige or not :

1. Please can you leave the comments as it is on the page and not compile it.

2. Please do not eliminate or edit any comment, because every comment is important and gives a fresh perspective and moreover for some at least, they will be burning their midnight oil to put in their bit and I seriously think that they must have their say on record, unaltered. And then too, there is the matter of each one thinking differently, so all need to be able to see all comments, without any editing.

Happy meeting tonight and I know you will all have a blast. If (and only if) you feel you will miss me, believe me, you will know at the end of tonight's discussion, that my elimination was "good riddance to bad rubbish" and honestly too.

Lots of love and a very good day to you, Rashdah. My humble salaams to your mother and my love to your killer nephew, I simply love him.

my view on Pooja's question (By Rashdah) (Thanked: 2 times)

People can I believe change with time, circumstances and sometimes knowledge can change the way they are. Mind you, I don't think everyone needs to change, alot of people are fine the way they are and they never change, as their is no need for such a improvement, but those on the wrong path, those dillusioned always do and should change for the better. I think people have certain habits and values (as Shaaz suggested) that never change, but they can improve over time and become more focused and refined.

posting my questions (By Pooja_Ipkknd) (Thanked: 2 times)

we may restrict discussion to Elizabeth's stay in Netherfield, it will give us enough material to discuss for one meeting

It is a big and beautiful part of the entire story- if there was a concept of RABBA VE moments for Darlizabeth, this portion is full of them and i love their witty confrontations.

Anyway Rashdah like u have suggested, i am posting my question-

1. Elizabeth says to Darcy- ppl themselves alter so much, arnav said the same thing to Kh-ppl change with time. How many agree with this and how many think that ppl never change in essentials and will behave in a similar manner as they always did?

myview on questions (By Shaaz)

I believe it is true mostly excluding some exceptions. Every person grows and mature with time. However he/she can't change his core instincts/nature. In context of the novel. Mr. Darcy is learning how to live lively and happily and on the other hand Lizzy is maturing with time and coming out of the veil of prejudice.

However the core values and behavior of person will remain the same. It doesn't matter how hard people will try to change themselves they can't change their nature. Mr. Darcy can't be a funny and witty person. But he can learn to enjoy fun and wit.
